It’s okay to not be okay

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today as we receive the news of the new tier locations in the UK. A lot of us will have anticipated what tier we would fall into. Many of us will be disappointed and feel as if we are still stuck in the same rut. My main point to bring to this article today is in the title. It’s okay to not be okay.

We live in a society where we feel as if we need to paint a smile on our faces constantly, and with the continued rise of using social media it is even easier to do so. To hide behind a screen is something a lot of us have become accustomed to.

We all have different coping mechanisms when it comes to expressing our feelings. I personally struggle to speak about how I feel, I bottle it up inside and then when it gets too much, I hide in my room and cry it all way. Which feels good after the crying, but straight away the bottling up begins again. You can tell how much I bottle up, when I watch the final of the Great British Bake Off and cry that its over. I know….

We all deal with our emotions in our own way and that’s fine but having someone to talk to is so important, it doesn’t even have to be someone you know, sometimes speaking to someone you don’t know is even better, by the way I don’t recommend just walking down the street and start telling the next person you see about what you’re going through, that may not go too well. But there are so many charities you can call who will help support you and just be there to speak to.

I recently got contacted by a online coach who I’d been following for a while. The message came after the government announced that the gyms were once again to be closed as part of the second lockdown. I found this news difficult as the gym is a really important aspect of my life. The message from the online coach was simply, how are you? What are your health and fitness goals for the immediate future.
I send a huge reply, pouring out things I would not have even said to my family members. It was mainly about how the gyms closing was going to effect my mental health. After I sent it, I felt so stupid. I sent a huge paragraph exposing all my emotions, rambled on to someone I had never met or spoken to before. But at the time it didn’t even cross my mind. I just unloaded everything I was feeling at that point in time and guess what, it felt even better than crying my eyes out, which is what I would have usually done.

So sometimes speaking to someone you don’t really know can be a huge benefit. Try it out, if you don’t know where to start below is a link to the Samaritans page. If you’re struggling with anything and don’t know who to talk to, give them a call or e-mail them.

You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human.
